Brand Origin Story - Meet the Founder

Hey, I’m Jack, the founder of One Year Older. I want to introduce myself and tell you about how the brand started. I grew up skiing in Lake Tahoe and have been on skis since I could stand. Every weekend in the Winter, my parents would take me and my brother to Alpine Meadows (now called Palisades Tahoe). We leased a locker there in the locals’ locker room. My mother stapled every season pass starting in the ‘99-‘00 ski season (when I was three) to the locker door with a Sharpie line to mark our height each season growing up.

Skiing is more than a hobby – it’s an identity, something that brings me freedom, peace, and camaraderie with family and friends. As a kid and teenager, my friends, brother, and I would film ski videos that were inspired by Warren Miller, setting up jumps and rails in the back yard, building jumps in the backcountry, and shredding our local mountains.

The name for the brand One Year Older was inspired by the legendary Warren Miller, who has a famous line, “If you don’t do it this year, you’ll just be one year older when you do.” This quote is the basis for the brand. One Year Older encourages living for the moment, seizing opportunities, and enjoying the flashes of life that bring joy, passion, freedom, peace, and camaraderie like skiing does, because nothing makes me enjoy the present moment more than being on the slopes.

One Year Older is a small, growing brand. I design the clothes, source production, package, and ship everything myself out of my home! I want people to wear their passion for skiing proudly and be reminded of that feeling every time they wear One Year Older.
